Dan’s deep expertise equips him to navigate Novia through the complex legal, compliance and regulatory requirements affecting the healthcare industry, and to be highly responsive throughout contract negotiations so projects can commence quickly.
In his role as Novia’s Corporate Counsel, Dan brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong background in healthcare law and compliance to Novia. Dan provides legal counsel to Novia’s CEO and leadership team, manages confidential client and corporate documents, and acts as Novia’s HIPAA Privacy Officer.
Dan began his career as an Associate Attorney in the Health Law Department of a nationally recognized law firm where he assisted with healthcare and corporate mergers and acquisitions, litigation, and regulatory matters. Later, Dan dove further into healthcare as the in-house counsel to several large hospitals, healthcare systems and academic medical centers where he eventually specialized in the regulatory and compliance elements of the healthcare industry.
Prior to joining Novia, Dan worked as a Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs and Chief Compliance Officer for an acute care hospital in Southern California where he implemented legal, compliance and risk management programs, and served on board committees with senior management advising health law and regulations, contracts, transactions, and joint ventures. Before that position, Dan was the Vice President of Ethics and Compliance Services for a large health system in Northern California where he provided legal and compliance advice including federal and state healthcare laws, and Medicare and Medi-Cal compliance. Dan also served as University Counsel for one of the largest University health systems in California where he advised on research compliance, healthcare laws and regulations, and transactional matters.
Education and Qualifications
Dan earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from The Boston University School of Law, his Masters of Public Health from The John Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, his Masters of Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine, and his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
