The client

Piedmont Healthcare, an integrated system of 5 hospitals and nearly 100 offices of primary care physicians and specialists, serves patients in Atlanta and throughout northern Georgia. Last year, Piedmont served nearly 2 million patients: performing over 44,000 surgeries, helping to deliver 8,000 babies, providing 471,695 outpatient encounters, completing 235 organ transplants, and handling nearly 250,000 emergency room visits.

The challenge

Piedmont invited Novia Strategies to partner with them to achieve the goal of developing a resource stewardship structure and implementing a minimum of $21 million of recurring annual non labor savings.

The approach

The team identified more than 150 savings initiatives totaling $35 million – surpassing Piedmont’s original goal of $21 million in savings. To date, the team has implemented more than $35 million in non labor savings, with work continuing.
